Echoes of an Earthly Body
Concept and Choreography by Jaqueline Ritter
Backdrop/Set video by Lorri Clark

“This project is a solo dance piece that reassesses the importance of our connection to Earth in the face of our culture’s fascination with the idea of commercial space travel and space colonization. If our current trend of environmental devastation continues, it is not too difficult to imagine that abandoning our home planet could one day be seen as the most favorable option of continued human survival. My piece transports viewers to the unimaginably distant future, in which human colonization has long since expanded into the vast cosmos. At the mercy of their new environments and without connection to their home planet, the humans of this future were forced to surrender to their most animalistic survival instincts and evolve into something that is barely recognizable as “human” anymore. My goal is to embody that theoretical future human, and to provoke audiences to reconsider the potential long-term consequences of losing connection to our planet. This is in an effort to promote environmental preservation over space colonization as a means of continuing the legacy of the human race.”

This is an on-going workshop and collaboration with a local aura photographer in which we documented before and after effects of crystal singing bowl music and meditations on ourselves and over 50 other participants during the course of a two year period between 2023-2025.
